Why should I consider an IV drip?
Oral supplements must travel through your stomach and be absorbed by your small intestine before they reach your bloodstream. Many problems along the way can limit the amount of nutrients that actually get into your bloodstream and are delivered to cells throughout your body.
For example, if you have inflammatory bowel disease, low stomach acid, or don’t produce enough digestive enzymes, your body can’t properly absorb nutrients.
Another roadblock is that your small intestine can only absorb a limited amount of some nutrients. You could take a mega-dose of nutrients orally, but only a small percentage would make it to your cells.
When your nutrients are administered intravenously (IV), they bypass digestion and absorption issues, and you get 100% of the dose delivered. Not only that, but your therapeutic dose is quickly distributed to cells that need the nutrition to boost your energy and improve your well being.
How does IV Therapy improve my health?
Nutritional IV therapy improves your health by giving you the nutrients your body must have to produce energy, build proteins, heal, keep your nerves and muscles working, and maintain every system in your body.
You can eat healthy foods and still develop a nutritional deficiency if you’re under any physical or emotional stress. Your body uses more nutrients when you’re stressed, whether the stress is due to chronic pain, acute or chronic illness, injury, overtraining, or anxiety.
An IV infusion can:
- Increase energy
- Boost metabolism
- Strengthen the immune system
- Improve healing and relieve pain
- Hydrate your body
- Enhance sport performance
- Fight free radicals
Depending on the nutritional IV infusion you use, it may also balance electrolytes, nourish your skin, and help detoxify your body.
What types of IV drips are available?
Before recommending nutritional IV therapy, Dr. Johnston assesses your medical history, performs a physical exam, and asks questions to determine your nutritional status. Your IV drip can be customized or you can choose one from our drip menu that may be perfect for your health.
Our IV drips are formulated to meet precise health needs. For example, they may target athletes or your immune system, contain concentrated antioxidants, or supply a good overall mix of nutrients.
If your energy is low, you need help with healing, or you’d like to learn if you have a nutrient deficiency, call the Osteopathic Wellness Center or book an appointment online.
Who administers the IV?
All treatments are given by a Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Board Certified Physician.
How long does an IV session take?
In general, your IV should take between 30 minutes to one hour. The nurse will administer your drip at a safe and comfortable rate. You can spend your time relaxing, reading, listening to music, or working on your tablet or laptop device.
Will it hurt to have an IV placed?
Our staff is well trained to easily find good veins; most people will barely feel the IV placement. At the most, you may feel a slight pinprick.
Are there side effects of IV Therapy?
Side effects rarely happen, if at all. If they do they are usually minor and short lived such as bruising or bleeding at IV site, warming or cooling sensation in arm during your infusion, tasting or smelling vitamins throughout your infusion. Having a vitamin smell in your urine 24 – 48 hours after infusion administration. Our staff are trained to manage all side effects that you may experience.
How often should I get an IV?
This depends on each individual’s needs and and/or ailment to be treated. For best results, we recommend monthly drips with an additional drip in that month if you may be feeling run down, under the weather, preparing for travel or a marathon, etc. Some of the treatments can be a quick fix and are only needed when the ailment is active ie: migraine, illness, post-workout or travel fatigue. Osteopathic Wellness offers serveral membership packages. We suggest speaking to the Registered Nurse or Physician on site to collaborate what would be best to meet your needs.
How soon will I feel the effects?
Typically you will feel the effects same day of treatment. Full absorption or the vitamins administered can take up to 24 hours.
Is IV Therapy safe?
Yes, we only use reputable and accredited compounding pharmacies for our ingredients. These infusions are only administered and monitored by a licensed Registered Nurse or Board Certified physician with skilled IV experience.
