Custom Orthotics | SERVING NEW CANAAN & WESPORT – LOCATED IN RIDGEFIELD CT

Instability in your feet can result in heel pain/plantar fasciitis, unequal leg length, muscle imbalance, low back pain, knee or hip pain, or pain in the ball of foot or arch.

Custom orthotics are used for correction of a condition called flat feet. This eliminates the need for your body to compensate for misalignment anywhere in your lower extremity and eliminates pain. Investing in a pair of orthotics can supply immediate comfort, correct irregular foot pronations, and enhance sports performance.

Orthotics Q&A

What are the benefits of Orthotics?

Utilizing orthotics gives the area of your body under performing an increase of support and stabilization. Combining both osteopathy and orthotics together can allow a person to enhance performance quicker than just one or the other.

Benefits include:

  • Improved mobility and balance
  • Relieve lower back and body pain
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Improves alignment
  • Maximizes quality of life
  • Reduces possible need of medication/surgery
  • Overall performance enhancement
How can osteopathy help foot issues using orthotics?

Orthotics are often created without having the patient’s foot musculoskeletal mechanics off, this combination often leads to incorrectly fit orthotics and possibly more lower extremity issues.

Osteopathy care helps promote strength and healing by working on its entirety. When orthotics are coupled with Osteopathy, patients are able to achieve a greater feeling of stability. Combining both practices yields positive results because of its non-invasive approach and emphasis on catering to the specifics of each individual patient’s needs.

Running and walking are great activities to stay healthy and active. Take care of your discomfort today. Come see our specialists serving Ridgefield, Danbury, New Canaan & all of the Greater Connecticut Area.

How can foot instability lead to pain?

Basic movements such as walking requires your foot to move side to side, also called your foot pronation. Natural Pronation is the desired and normal motion of an individual’s foot. Weight and force are equally distributed throughout the feet and lower extremities when walking or landing. However, there are several abnormal variations. Over pronation occurs when the ankle rolls both downward and inward with each step, as a result, the big toe and second toe overcompensate taking on all the weight causing the foot to twist with each step. This stress on the tibia in the lower leg can lead to shin splints, knee pain, and pain around one’s heel. Under pronation occurs when the foot rolls slightly outward with each step. The force from one’s stride isn’t transferred off the big toe resulting in extra stress on the smaller toes and the outside of both feet. Having high rigid arches can result in ankle issues, Plantar Fasciitis, and various other injuries.

Determining whether you have pronation, overpronation, or underpronation can be key to relieving any pain. At the Osteopathic Wellness Center, we may recommend custom-made foot orthotics (shoe inserts) when needed to help your feet function in their optimal, neutral position. We work directly with ComfortFit Orthotics to fit you for any occasion.
